The Managing Editor of the Al-Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Iddrisu Bature says the communications team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has failed the party’s presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo in mismanaging allegations of marijuana use against him.
According to Alhaji Bature, the communications team of the NPP has not managed well the information released by Wikileaks concerning Nana Akufo-Addo and allegations of drug use thereby allowing that issue to take over the more positive aspects of their flagbearer in the media.
He passed the comments on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM Thursday.
Alhaji Bature said denials by the Chairman of the NPP, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey in 2008 during the party’s rally at Kasoa that Nana Addo had never used any narcotics drugs as well as Nana Asante Bediatuo’s threats to sue media practitioners on reports of his drug usage is what has worsened matters.
He stated that although Nana Akufo-Addo’s positive attributes far outweigh his negatives, it is sad that the revelation from the Wikileaks cables has tarnished the image of the biggest opposition leader.
He noted that people make mistakes while they are growing up but one’s ability to show remorse for wrongs done is what draws public sympathy to his side.
He therefore asked Nana Addo to humbly admit that he used to smoke marijuana but had stopped so that he can regain public confidence.
However, Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, Sammy Awuku said it is very sad the NDC had taken the information from Wikileaks as the gospel truth.
He said if the NDC accepts the Wikileaks information as the truth, then President Atta Mills has lied to Ghanaians about his health because he claimed that he only had sinus infections but the Wikileaks cables have revealed that he (President Mills) has cancer of the throat which can occur through excessive drinking of alcohol, oral sex and smoking.
Sammy Awuku said Ghanaians should ask how President Mills contracted such a disease.
He further stated that the hidden agenda of the NDC has been revealed; that the party will never allow a Muslim to lead them.
He argued that during the 19 years rule of former President Rawlings, he never chose a Muslim as his running mate and Sam Pee Yalley’s comments that President Mills will not move to the Flagstaff House because the facility is near Nima attest to the fact that the NDC has a passionate hatred for the Muslim community in the country.
Communications Director of the NPP, Nana Akomea, who also spoke on Dwaso Nsem, denied as false the allegations against Nana Akufo-Addo.
He however said the NPP will not sit down for the NDC propaganda machinery to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians, but will match them boot for boot whenever the NDC tells lies against their presidential candidate.
