The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region is daring members of the ruling government to tear posters of the NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo which have been pasted on installations close to the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.
The General Secretary of the NDC, Joseph Yamin is allegedly threatening to have Nana Addo’s posters ripped off ahead of the NDC’s National Delegates Congress, Thursday.
The Congress will officially endorse President John Mahama as the flagbearer of the party, following the untimely death of president John Mills.
But there is simmering tension in Kumasi, venue of the Congress over threats to have the posters of the NPP flagbearer ripped off.
The Chairman of the NPP in the Ashanti Region Frederick Fredua Antoh told Joy News the threats by the NDC General Secretary to tear Nana Addo’s posters are odd.
He does not understand why the posters of his flagbearer which have been pasted on electrical poles and other installations close to the Baba Yara Stadium will be ripped off only because the NDC is about to hold its congress in the region.
He described the NDC threats as irritating and do not make for fair competition.
Fredua Anto said after 20 years of democratic practice in Ghana, the NDC should not buckle in fear of Nana Addo’s poster.
He would not say exactly what his party will do if the party finds the posters of the NPP flagbearer removed, except to dare the NDC General Secretary to go ahead with his threats to remove the posters.
But the National Organiser of the NDC, Yaw Boateng Gyan has called for cool heads to prevail.
He conceded that quite a number of the NDC supporters were unhappy with the flood of Nana Addo’s posters pasted around the stadium area but cautioned against ripping them off.
He also alleged that many of the posters of President John Mahama which were pasted on Monday evening had been ripped-off.
He has however cautioned the supporters against a reprisal ‘attack’ on the posters of Nana Addo.
