Newly endorsed flag bearer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), President John Dramani Mahama says it will only be fair for the NDC to win a second term of office since all previous governments have had eight years to rule.
President Mahama said the good works that the NDC has pursued in the past three and half years will propel it to victory in the December 7 polls.
The NDC flag bearer promised to win the polls “one touch” adding that there would be no run-off in December.
President Mahama was speaking at the NDC national campaign launch at the Jubilee Park, Kumasi hours hours after his endorsement by the 99.5% of the party’s delegates.
In his acceptance speech, President Mahama described his endorsement as “gargantuan” and “unprecedented” and further added that the NDC government for the past three and half years have been laying the foundation for a transformational take off the country’s development and called on Ghanaians to retain them in power in order to continue with their “Better Ghana Agenda”.
The NDC flag bearer underscored the need for the party to stay united as they head into the December 2012 elections. According to him the NDC remains a greatest threat to its opponents as long as they stay united.
The President said he was hopeful that the massive endorsement he had from delegates will ultimately translate into his victory in the December polls.
President Mahama polled 2767 out of the 2781 total votes cast.
Fourteen delegates voted “No” objecting to President Mahama becoming the flag bearer of the NDC in the upcoming polls.
