Adwoa Safo must stop her blatant lies; there was no rigging – Sophia Ackuaku

Sophia Karen Ackuaku

The NDC parliamentary candidate for Dome-Kwabenya, Sophia Karen Ackuaku has debunked claims by the NPP MP-elect for the constituency, Adwoa Safo, that but for her vigilance, the NDC would have rigged the election in the area.

In a statement, she explained that the change of figures during the collation was a genuine mistake committed by agents of both parties.

“The NPP agents at the collation center would bear me witness about working with our agents to add the numbers from our various copies of the results declaration forms (red sheets). The few discrepancies we mutually had were mostly about whether a figure was seven or one, stemming from the scribbling handwriting of certain presiding officers at some polling stations.”

Madam Ackuaku further noted: “Therefore as far as Sophia Ackuaku and the NDC is concerned, it cannot be said anywhere that figures were massaged to favour any political party. We are tired of this childish, uncultured behaviour and blatant lies being spewed by Sarah Adwoa Safo making her the most intelligent and vigilant personality in the NPP. In the wake of all these accusations, the so called "most vigilant" person in the NPP has not been able to come out with a single polling station where the supposed rigging took place. If she cannot come out with anything concrete, she should stop running her mouth and clamouring for attention.”

Below is the full statement

My attention has been drawn to a desperate attempt by Sarah Adwoa Safo to tag NDC as a bunch of thieves. Initially, I didn't take her blatant lies seriously, I thought it didn't warrant my response, and discounted it as juvenile posturing. I have decided to issue this statement to set the record straight on the events of that faithful Sunday morning 9th December 2012. I can't for the life of me understand the motivation behind Adwoa Safo's current media tirade to perpetrate this falsehood about a conspiracy between myself and the EC officials at the collation center to add numbers to the various recorded numbers from the polling stations.

I have watched and listened to media talk shows hailing Ms. Safo for being vigilant to prevent a plot by myself to subvert the results of the elections in Dome-Kwabenya. It is rather unfortunate that she was at the collation center for a mere 30 minutes. The NPP agents at the collation center would bear me witness about working with our agents to add the numbers from our various copies of the results declaration forms (red sheets). The few discrepancies we mutually had were mostly about whether a figure was seven or one, stemming from the scribbling handwriting of certain presiding officers at some polling stations.

I have witnessed the calculated and dubious assertions by Adwoa Safo to tarnish an otherwise incident-free collation process, where her representatives and mine collaborated amicably throughout the night. I want to state emphatically that there were no recounts of the ballots as has been claimed by Adwoa Safo around media houses. If Adwoa wants to portray herself as the NPP heroine, that is perfectly fine by me, but she should not perpetrate such falsehoods to achieve her aim of political aggrandizement, if she is the poster child of vigilance for her party, then no wonder they are in the mess they are in trying to fish for evidence to support their false claims of rigging. Again, she was only at the collation center for a mere thirty minutes doing TV interviews and throwing tantrums.

Therefore as far as Sophia Ackuaku and the NDC is concerned, it cannot be said anywhere that figures were massaged to favour any political party. If she cannot come out with anything concrete, she should stop running her mouth and clamouring for attention.
